For the first couple of miles she needs to warm up, by riding easily. I do this at home in the garage on my exercise bike, however, if I cycle in a certain direction from my house, I hit a steep hill about a mile out and if I decide to go up it seated, hard, the top of my hamstrings and glutes take the strain and can ache the rest of the way.
