For the first couple of miles she needs to warm up, by riding easily. I do this at home in the garage on my exercise bike, however, if I cycle in a certain direction from my house, I hit a steep hill about a mile out and if I decide to go up it seated, hard, the top of my hamstrings and glutes take the strain and can ache the rest of the way.

tell her to adjust her seat slightly forward as this can help. only slightly nothing too steep of an angle, you probably wont see the adjustment by eye but she will sit better on the saddle.

I don't know why all you upwrongers insist on jamming a hatchet up your arses then complaining it hurts, just come over to the dark side and be more comfortable and faster.
