You should live in France Maggot! The amount of junk mail is phenomenal, and no MPS either (not that I know of anyway). Monday, and only Monday, is the day for it, dunno why. Great reams of flyers and mags etc for all manner of local businesses.

In fairness, it can be quite useful as a language learning tool so I do go through it all so I actually don't really mind.

I've seen stickers on mailboxes here that say 'Pas de pub'... but I thought that was to stop people p*ssing in the letter box!

Targetted marketing I'd call it. You never know when you might need a pizza delivery when you're halfway up Ben Nevis.

OK , my postman has now been and delivered the Xmas presents I have just bought on ebay.
Three cheapo cycle computers and one front light from SJS. I figure the computers are not what a dedicated cyclist would want , they are a bit basic , but I hope they will make some young boys happy. All four items were bought for the minimum bid of 99p plus p&p of £3.50 , making £4.49 each

Ding-dong merrily online !

Where I live now, you can get a small sticker from the council saying that you don't want adverts and/or free newspapers in your mailbox, and they get heavy fines if they do put them in. It works very well. But that doesn't help you in Cheddar I'm afraid!

These stickers are great - I've seen them in South Kesteven district (Lincs) and plastered over pretty much every letterbox in Leiden.

We suffer from junk flyers a lot being a student area so I doubt a sign would be much use. It would also be nice if the postman knocked or rang the bell when there is something to sign for instead of traipsing down to the sorting office. xx(

my BMC membership renewal which was posted to me and is great.

Also, a Valley orthodontics leaflet, a Budgens delivery leaflet, a Salvation Army fundraising letter thing, a Haskins brochure, a local hardward shop brochure, a hearing aid brochure and a pizza delivery menu, none of which were posted to me or are addressed to me!!!! I know there is the mail preference service, which stops un-solicited 'posted' mail, but is there anyway of stopping all this other unsolicited guff which has not been 'posted' to me, but is being delivered by our postie?

No. household delivery items are delivered on contract by royal mail in the same way your newspaper is full of leaflets on a sunday.
you cannot opt out of this service and stickers saying you don`t want leaflets don`t apply to royal mail.
Anyway, they keep me in a job in these days of unfair competition (other firms given preferential treatment by the postal regulator whilst we are penalised).and they pay me extra to deliver them, all helps in the credit crunch.

Students eh? bloody pests.
One told me to F-off when I rang his bell at 11am (too early for him). result of which was every student in the property was refused parcel delivery and had to come to the office for all there parcels.
In the end they sent one of the girls down to explain/beg/apologise but the a**ehole wouldn`t identify himself or apologise personally.
gave us all a good laugh in the office though.
