get someone else to teach her like a bikeability instructor from local council. i can see this causing arguments and stress for you if you attempt to teach her.
I always thing that like puppies, Christmas is a bad time for bikes!
If you buy a kid a bike in June or July they have a whole summer of good weather* to enjoy it whereas at Christmas, it may be afew days before they can ride, and then riding will be infrequent ... they will not get into the habit
Yep, when we were kids we always got new bikes in the summer - they weren't birthday or Christmas presents. It's a much better time of year to get one.
My missus has a similar story, she could ride, but not very well. I agree, it's child abuse.
Don't do too much too soon. I bought my wife a nice Trek hybrid, (this is 20 yrs on) but she doesn't use use it much, and admits that cycling is a struggle.
Replying to my own post....
My wife now has a road bike and loves it! She's a lot slower than me, but it's nice to go out and share an experience with her on the bike.
This could be a blessing in disguise. My wife can cycle but doesn't. Me popping out for a few hours gives us a bit of space.
We have a lot of common interests and spend a lot of quality time as a family so a bit of a break is beneficial to us both.
That way I won't hold her back and she won't hold me back and when she runs 10k I have utter admiration for her as she does for me when I cycle 40-50 miles.
