My front lights don't fit on my allez...

Wasn't sure whether to post this on 'know-how' or 'Accessories' but...

I had cause to use the roadie after dark today. Putting the back light on was dead easy (fits on the seatpost). Front lights (old-style cateye EL500?) would not fit on the h'bars which are wider circumference than on the Sirrus...the light fitting has one of those 'cam' locking mechs. I'd need a longer bolt on it to make it fit. There must be another way to fit them, right?

Y'all must've had this problem, too, right?

Any ideas?

I think you need to buy a fixing designed for larger diameter bars. I think it's possible. I jhad to do it a few years ago for a Cateye front light.

The Allez must have oversize bars (31mm), you'll need a larger mount like this the H31 should fit.

H31 oversize (up to 32mm) handlebar bracket for all front lights

I'd look into getting a longer bolt if you can, cheaper than a new mount. I've had to file down the head on a bolt to make it fit a hex recess before now. Pennies.

the longer bolt won't work. you'll need the specific mount....

the adjustable mounts they now use fit all bars, so its probably better to get one of them

I think I ineeded a slightly longer bolt on mine, cut to size - will check later. The newer flexi tight ones fit no problem - I did have a spare but will be using it on my new bike

Just looked, indeed I did use a slightly longer bolt (m4 I think from wilkos) had to cut to the right length (it was a shade too long). The bars on my allez (2004) are not oversized.

My Smart Light front bracket has a nylon ratchet band as well as a lever lock. I had to adjust the band before fixing it to my Marin from my road bike.

Thanks for the advice. I think I'll go for one of those flex-tight brackets.
