My frame is too small, what are the repercussions?

Nice bike but IMO far too small for you unless you have odd proportions.

Try a 56 or 58. Depending on top tube length, it should be a better fit.

I'm 6"1'.

needs a photo of you on the bike, side-on!

provided seat post is long enough to be safely extended that far out, then that plus longer stem if needed will give you the position you need if you want to change it, but in all honesty if its comfortable... i dearly wish id left my road bike as it was, because by piddling around trying to make it "racier" ive done my back in!

Anyone else have any advice?

Watch your knees don't knock your teeth out.

I am the same size as you and ride 2 x 58cm hybrids and a 60cm road bike. I knew nothing when I first started, I thought bikes were one "adult" size and rode for a year on an 17" MTB. Moving to the right size bike made an enormous difference to my comfort, stability and the amount of time I could spend in the saddle.

I have a medium Giant and at 5'8" its great for me. Hubby has been known to ride it to the shops and back and says that it gives him leg ache, back ache, wrist ache and its simply too darn small for him. He is 5'11". He also looks a bit strange on it.
He says that, even on the hoods, he is still very upright and it is most uncomfortable.

At your height, a medium Giant frame sounds way too small. Maybe a trip to your LBS and try test riding a few other bikes. Not saying to necessarily purchase if your budget doesn't go that far but it will give you a better idea of frame size

Not looking to hijack the thread - but I've a similar situation -a mate wants a Triban 3 red is 6 3" and I told him only to buy a 60 or 63 frame which he can't get hold of (new or second hand) could he get away with the 57?

I am tad over 6', with 33" inside leg, the 57cm felt too small for me, I have a 60cm, a touch too big but Iike that.. IMO 60cm is the size your pal needs.

@ Polkamon / OP .. Ask maybe in another thread and find a club local to you, you might then be able to borrow a bike/bikes in different sizes, and see the difference?

Frame looks a bit small, but often frames are preferred a little small, because large frames get flexier as they grow in size. The smaller frame allows you to get your arms lower, if your stance on the bicycle favors this. Don't see too much wrong with the bicycle you have now. Try a bigger frame first and see if the improvements justify the expense.

This is reassuring! Thanks, I shall do.

6'1" on a 50cm frame must be like riding a circus bike. Try sitting on the bike whilst leaning against a wall and put the heal of your foot on the pedal with the pedal at the bottom of it's stroke - your leg should have no bend in it, but I'll bet it has, even with all that seat post out.
You can see it's too small for you by the way you've got the stem set right at the top of that long steerer.
I'm 6' and my bike size is 56/58cms.
By the way - I can't see any spacers under that stem. Is it some sort of special system?
Anyway, that's a gorgeous looking little frame, but imo you really need something bigger.

Haha, well said! You're right - I can't fully stretch my leg, not a good sign. I'll take that into consideration, thanks for your wise words!

Yes. I was joking. It is a lovely bike, (for a short-arse like me. Not really for 6' 1" beanpole like yourself). Could you borrow a bike in your size (56cm - 58cm) and see what you think. Also, I think you should have spacers in your steerer, as Raindog above said. Although I can't work out how your fork has not fallen out without them.

Lol, thank you, some say beanpole some say lanky.

when you go on the drops ,is it slightly ofputting to feel your knees rubbing your ears ? ^_^

Hahaha!

well spotted compo .

@Polkamon value is a tough one but i wouldnt let it go for under £200 it looks good and clean

Okay, thanks!

Hey, Cyclist33, I've only ever made two threads on this forum, this one, and another under a different alias back when I first acquired the bike three years ago, and I remember you replied in that one too, so thanks once again! ^_^

Yeah, I believe it is but I may double-check that now you've pointed it out. It's already a fairly long stem. Exactly, as @biggs682 finely put it:
dont fix what aint broke
. Lol, I guess comfort is of prime importance in the end.

Hahaha, another cracking joke! Yeah, I wasn't too different to you. Fair enough, it's hard to argue with that. It compels me to look into getting a new bike.

Way too small, even on the drops you are probably sat bolt upright unless you have the arms of a T-rex!

This made me chuckle! I'm loving the humour in this thread.

Good idea, thanks!

I ride a 50cm and I'm a 5'5" lady....

Oh...perhaps I am due an upgrade then!
