Hello folks,

Got my first road bike all tuned and ready to go for a relatively flat 10 miler tommorow. Getting up nice and early to catch the roads quiet to start to get my confidence up.

Spare a thought for me !

Cheers,

Pete

Consider it spared

Bet you go further than 10 miles though, or you come back and go straight out again

Longers,

It's my first ride on the road EVER, took me quite a while to get the confidence up to get out.

I hope you have a good time, take it steady and you will be just fine.

Whereabouts are you riding? Built up area/Countryside?

If you get out early as you are planning on doing then you should find the traffic very quiet which will be a good thing for your confidence.

Have you been riding off road previously?

Small place in Scotland called Inverclyde, outside Glasgow. It's built up mostly. I'm getting out really early to give myself a chance, i am so determined it is unreal.

I've been riding off road for about 5 months with a hybrid, i think im ready to do this.

You do realise that this the start of a very slippery slope .

All the best for tomorrow.

All the best for tomorrow. You are not alone, it can be daunting for the first time. By the way hi to you all. Another newbie joins in after 16 years of car travel. Began to cycle to work (6miles) a few weeks ago now and just realised how unfit I really am. Still as you all say in other posts, it gets better. I believe you.
Read the forum and found it to be the most level - headed(ish!) cycling forum out there. Don't usually join in, prefering to sit on the sidelines and read away quietly but this one seems to have got me out of my shell a bit! Pat on the back to all of you!

I know it's only 08.06am but thats my first ride done. Just got straight out and went for it. I felt like i was absolutely flying! Absolutely fantastic feeling, i do alot of cardio sport and workouts, they really must have benefited me.

I'm just rewarding myself with an ice cold bottle of powerade before i go to the gym for a hour of weights! Happy days and thanks for the good wishes.

Congratulations. You know that your riding distance will only increase from here though :-)

My pleasure. I stared cycling around 4 month ago on my old Apollo Kaos. Back then 10 miles seemed an impossibility. Yesterday I completed my 1st 50 miler and am non too much the worse for ware this morning. With a proper road bike you will soon be chewing up the miles.

Well done Poolcue! After reading your post last night I decided to get off my fat arse and go for a ride this morning too! Only about 10 miles but after not riding for a week and a half it felt like long enough to me! As you so rightly say, you have to start somewhere. Keep at it and keep posting. You're motivating another newbie to go for it too!
