My first "big" ride

I'll be using a MTB but the sheriffs badge still needs looking after I guess, can I get a good pair for under 30 notes ???

By the way,
If you could fit a pair of road tyres instead of knobbly ones, it would make a massive difference.

I've just purchased my first ever non-mountain bike and I can't wait to get out and ride it.
Just have to arrange collection (hopefully tomorrow!) and then I'll be planning my own 30 miler hopefully!!

Is There a lot of difference between regular padded and high end padded, if so what ??

The higher end shorts have more padding that is shaped to offer more padding where you need it most .
Decathlon shorts brand are btwin and yes the rating is the amount of padding you get 3 , 5 or 7
the 3 rated are £8
the 5 are £17 or £20 if you go for bib shorts that have straps over the shoulders( bit of a faff at a toilet stop more comfy as you get nothing digging into the waist )

MTB slick tyres take less energy to roll and will make you a bit faster , i used scwable city jets for my MTB and they are great, gettiing them up to the right pressure helps as well so a decent pump helps as i used to run my MTB at 75 psi ,dependant on the tyres rating.

Enormous. High end pads are something else. I just bought some Assos Mille bib shorts after wearing £40 stuff and it's like sitting on a sofa. Not because it's a thicker pad (it isn't), but because it's so much more stable and fits SO much better.

I bought them though for my recent century, below that I coped ok with cheaper, but I'd not go back now.

Cheers for all the advice guys . The ride went quite smooth with very little pain because of upholstery the shorts and found it quite easy I even think I could have carried on another 10 15 mile but I'm all fairness a lot of the ride was old rail way bike paths oh and of course a pub at the end . But the winner of the day was deffo the padded shorts . Onwards and upwards . Mark
