Completed my first 100 mile ride today. Hemel to Oxford and back. Started off about 8.45 this morning, there was still a frost on the ground but sunny, and it didn't take long for the temperature to warm up. The first 25 miles were hilly in places and it didn't take long for me to warm up either. Stopped at the 25 mile mark for a mars bar and a coffee.
Set of again, the ride from Princes Risborough to Oxford was mostly flat so head down into the slight head wind and the next 25 miles flew by and I was heading towards Oxford city centre.
Stopped for lunch and another coffee (pleased with the Carradice Pendle I bought, plenty of room for a flask, packed lunch and everything else I needed for the day) Fuelled up it was time to get going, so headed out of Oxford towards Thame then Aylesbury. Mostly flat, and with the wind behind me I upped the pace a bit and was flying.
Not for too long though as I was back in the Chilterns and the lumpy roads around Wendover and Tring, and the wind had changed direction.
Time for a quick coffee and a chocolate biscuit or 2 and then it was the last 20 miles home.
Really enjoyed it, absolutely shattered now (hence not much of a write up)
Hemel Hempstead ->Gt. Missenden -> Princess Risborough -> Chinnor -> Watlington -> Oxford -> Thame -> Haddenham -> Aylesbury -> Tring -> Berkhamsted -> Hemel Hempstead
100.27 miles. 6 hours 34 mins. Top speed 37.4mph. Average speed 15.2 mph.
My Route
Hot Chocolate and bed for me I think
