Might be an obvious thing to say but your average will be a lot higher if the route is flatter. I have a friend on strava who regularly cycles 50+ mile rides and his total feet climbed isnt even a third of what i do on my rides which are between 15 and 20 miles as i live in a hilly area.

Hi Jack,

Don't worry too much about speed at this point. Concentrate on enjoying your rides, learn how to handle your bike and know your own limits as well as those of your bike. As your experience grows you will become quicker. As one of the other contributors has said, your school work is more important than the cycling! :bicycle:
