My wife's family swears by the following:-

Boil some water in a small pan (about 3/4 of a cup) with 3 large slices of *fresh* ginger in it.
Add juice of 2 whole lemons
Sweeten with honey to taste (it should be sweet even if you normally don't mind sour)
Take with a couple of paracetamol.

To be fair it seems to do the trick.

Just take the Paracetamol and save yourself the trouble of the rest!

I am in bed with flu. It has waited until half term. Pissed off doesn't begin to describe it.

If you had influenza you definitely wouldn't be on your laptop typing stuff.

You've probably just got a cold.

I never believed that kind of message until I finally caught real 'flu. My legs started buckling under me so I had to crawl to the bathroom for the regular bouts of vomiting and the squits. I had to pull the phone to me by its cord to phone in sick.

I would definitely have passed the 'unable to take advantage of free bag of banknotes on doorstep' test!

This is day 4. Had a temperature of 39 - 40C and pulse rate of 105 for days 1 -3. Contemplating getting up for the first time since Saturday. It's flu.

Had a bad cough for at least two and a half months this winter. Went to see my GP and changed one of my BP tablets. Have been sleeping much better and coughing less so happy days. I also had a stinking cold at same time as the cough. Trying to keep ridding this winter has been hard work and on top of that the weather hasn't helped. Moan over spring now on its way so happy days.

Well, I know us ladies are meant to stoically keep going through a nasty cold, but once every winter I seem to come down with a nasty virus that completely wipes me out.
Bad luck for me, it hit on Saturday, which was a slight disaster as I had to finish a uni assignment yesterday. I did manage to get it done, but suspect the quality of my conclusion may have been compromised!
Luckily today was my day off and I've spent it on the sofa, snoozing on and off.

So feeling like death warmed up, any top tips to fight it off quickly?

Hot sweet tea and toast during the day, breathe in the vapours from the hot tea, works just as well as the old smelly-crystals-in-boiling-water thing, but doesn't smell as bad. Unless you can't stand the smell of tea!

Mug of hot milk at bedtime.

Decongestant to suit, as and when needed (not all the time). Check which ones are safe to use if you are already on medication, esp. blood-pressure tabs.

Well enough to go back to school yesterday although I'm still coughing and wheezing like a 40 a day smoker. Won't be going anywhere near a bicycle until at least Monday.
Cannot remember the last time I went a whole fortnight without cycling somewhere.

It's a bit more complicated than that...
I'm just going through my third episode of severe cold of the winter. Oddly enough the first one begun to come on while I was in India. I normally have a couple of days of light sneezing and runny nose. This year I've had the lot - lassitude, tiredness, horrible sore throat turning to blotting paper in the nose and prickling behind the eyes.

Yep, real flu is real. Had it once, in 1990, and the last thing I did before collapsing for 5 days was to drag my mattress down into the only warmish room in the house. Went back to work far too quickly, and it took about a month to get back to normal. wouldn't wish it on anyone. It really did feel like every single last bit of life was being sucked out of me. I did actually wonder if it felt like that when you are going to die.

This winter I've just had a cold. Compensation for last year, when I escaped the fate, for a change. Working in a school, one does tend to get enough exposure...

Mrs FF is actually off work with a flu/severe cold, so it must be bad, she'll crawl to work at death's door normally. It's her second this year.
I've had 3 bouts and wAs off for 3 days last week. The worst symptoms seem to be the total fatigue and that it takes so long to completely go. Over a week later I still don't feel right

My second cold of 2016 has struck! At least it should be gone well before the Prudential London 100. Miserable right now though
