I got my driver's licence really quickly....I had one of those new human rights breaching passports which meant they didn't have to do any more identity checks

OH calm down I don't know why it's such a big issue. I'm on her side! I wouldn't have trusted them with *my* original either!

If she'd have done a colour photocopy rather than black and white they probably wouldn't even have noticed anyway. Best of both worlds - application accepted, and no chance of the stupid DVLA losing the original.
