I have now officially been given the key code to my parents' safe. It's the one that contains the keys to all of the other safes they have, has their wills in it, who their solicitor is, contains various other useful paperwork and so on. It's amazing what a death in the family can do... they are currently cleaning out my grandfather's home and as it turns out my uncle was the only person who unofficially knew what the code to his father's safe was...

I didn't like to point out that we already knew it  because not so long ago they managed to go on holiday without their insurance document (they would never risk the idea of us emailing them a digital copy) and then proceeded to book one of them onto a train (6am start not getting back until gone midnight) just to collect it at a staggering cost of over £250.... when my mother mentioned this to me asking me if we could collect her from the railway station run her to their home and back again, we tactfully asked why they hadn't just asked us go over and put said documents in the post to them guaranteed next day delivery for £6.95 given that they didn't leave the country for another week.... this meant we had to be given the code for the safe.... oddly we wrote this down, discussed the matter and put a copy of it in our safe because we were pretty certain that no-one else had 'officially' been given it and even unofficially probably hadn't given that they would rather pay +£250 in rail fares to come and collect a piece of paper!

parents hey.

My step father rang me and gave it to me whilst my mother was out. I suspect my mother will ring me at some point and do the same thing!

I wait with  for the next phone call where I will yet again have to pretend I don't know and won't tell anyone. :surrender:

Breakfast, followed by lunch, and then tea, but occasionally dinner time is used for either of them. My kids get hungry, they don't care what I call it as long as there is something they like on the plate!

When our two were young they always had healthy appetites, if they weren't interested in food it was always a good sign they were ill, we were often considering padlocking the kitchen cupboards to stop them eating us out of house and home.^_^
