After 562 pages, I thought we had this "mundane news" thing absolutely nailed. Then I read todays' Gloucester Citizen (page15) and recognised true excellence in the field of mundanity. Under the heading "Pie and mash plan foiled by busy pub", a consummate professional journalist has filled half a page of newsprint with an account of how had been meaning to do a pub food review on a couple of local pubs, but both were a bit busy so he didn't bother after all! Anyone else would have shelved the article. The Citizen seems to have regarded it as their go-to story of the day. Drop the dead donkey.
