So, as I was driving my daughter's stepdaughter to school this morning I saw a rather lovely bike sail past us on the South Circular. ''Ooh, that's a lovely bike,'' I said. Said stepgranddaughter, 6 years old, frowned and said ''You break the law!" ''What do you mean?'' ''They don't obey the traffic lights'' she exclaimed. ''Who told you that?'' ''My mum's mum.''

I'll forgive a six-year old but not her nan.
