My new bike is "mudguard ready" up to 25mm tyres, but ships with 28mm tyres!

I've taken the guards off my old bike and tried to bodge them into place as much as possible, but I'm wondering if I've gone too short on the front of the rear, is this likely to gunk up my gears or will most of the crud have flicked off before then?

Yes, your rear mudguard makes me feel uneasy. :okay:

Your cranks, rings and shoes will get more crud than if the guard extended in the normal way below the chainstay bridge.
But since there's clearly not space to secure it there (on the bridge), as fitted it's giving you and the guy behind some decent protection.

to fit down between the chain stays
You mean actually in front of the bridge: I wondered about that. Did you secure it in two vertical places? And where/how?
1x? Di2?
I guess the distance away from the tyre means a fair bit (of crud) would 'escape'.

Hmm, seems like some more bodging is required, the front derailleur cable is proving to be annoying.

Carefully bolted on rubber flap, or end of an old plastic mudguard to extend ?

Can you do that under the Front mech - but behind (Downtube side of....) the cable too ?

The best way of fixing a chromoplastic 'guard to the chainstay bridge. Drill 2 small holes and fix a small zip tie around the bridge. You can make the tip narrower to fit between the stays.

Some chain stays have a bolt hole in them. In which case you can use a standard mudguard bridge, just like you do at the seatstay bridge.

The best way to secure a mudguard to a chainstay bridge which has the normal (horizontal) threaded hole in it, is to use a screw (as 'flat-headed as possible to minimise distance used up), supported by a 1/2" washer, to reduce/spread the stress and inevitable abrasion (-> failure) on the plastic itself.
