You did; only if your knee pain is related to pressure on the foot. Because the cleat and pedal is bigger, your weight is spread over about 4x the area.
Nothing to do with stiffness of shoes. I only mention the pedal size. The larger the size then the pressure is spread over a wider area.

I got Look Keo Classics on my bike with supplied 4.5 degree float cleats, im a total noob to cleats and getting out is extremelly easy, not got the hang of clipping in so well yet, which is a problem at lights when trying to pull away and foot just skids over pedal instead of clipping in, and you do a false start, sure the cars behind love it, lol
lol you get used to that, i can clip in straight away 95% of the time straight away without looking. faster than most people with standard SPDs

So everything to do with sole stiffness then. If the sole is 100% rigid the size of cleat or pedal is irrelevant.

Don't think i've ever incountered a 100% rigid sole..

Really, as all my cycling shoes are as close to 100% rigid as I can afford. If I could afford custom molded carbon shoes I would. I makes a world of difference in comfort while pedaling, but sort of sucks when you try and walk.

You using Look Keo's? I picked them entirelly on aesthetics, didnt know much about them at the time of purchase, but they were in another league aesthetically to the ugly shimano alternative!

I havent altered the tension at all on them yet, they were straight out of the box and onto the bike and the guy in evans set up my cleats for me since they were new shoes and I'd never used cleats before(I was very impressed with the service I got) so I havent bothered with any setup, plus being new I guess they are a bit stiff. On sunday hopefully I'll get out into some quiet roads on my road bike instead of my fixed(depending on weather), out of city centre with all the traffic lights, then throw on my shoes and practice clipping in where I wont be inconveniencing any cars, I can clip in okay stationary but hitting a moving target while accellerating knowing a car is right behind you is a different story
