Hi James. Where abouts in Sittingbourne are you moving to? I'm in Homewood Avenue. There are some pretty good routes around here - Gillingham, Rochester, Maidstone, Hollingbourne is one of my current favorites (I'm assuming you're a roadie?).

There are (so I am told) some good MTB routes around here too but I know nothing of them.

Hi Eviljeem.
Welcome to Kent. There is some fantastic riding in your area, just ripe for exploring.
Keep an eye out on the Cycle Chat informal rides boards for rides, also check out the links in my post for the Lewisham and Bromley Cyclists as we do a lot of Kent based rides.

Hello, I'm from Sittingbourne as well just near Bobbing (Sonora Fields). There are some real good rides around with nice scenery and a few good hills. I commute daily to Gillingham but if i want to go for a local ride tend to go down the old A249 from Bobbing to Iwade down the the sheppy crossing, sometimes onto the island sometimes not, from there tend to go down Old Ferry Rd then to Raspberry Hill Lane than where ever I fancy from there depending how far I want to ride.

Never cycled on the Island but one of my routes includes Raspberry Hill Lane - on to Lower road then up into Gillingham and home on the old A2.

I think my favourite route at the moment takes me along the A2 to Rochester, up one side of Borstal Hill and back down the other (back into Rochester) then along the Medway and into Aylesford, through to Larkfield and Maidstone, out along the A20 and up Hollingbourne Hill followed by a nice downhill stretch back home

Another good route is out via the back roads (to the left of the A2) to Oare and Faversham, Up Dunkirk Hill and into Canterbury, out towards Ashford then up past Chillham and Challock, drop back down onto the A20 and finish off with Hollingbourne (again)

ELL, we used to live at 4 Emerald Crescent - small world

Cheers for the advice on the rides. I will try some when I move to Sittingbourne. I am quite unfit at the moment, so trying to get out on the bike a lot more.

Sounds good.

At the moment i do a 20 mile round trip to work and bak in the South East of London so looking to do the same in Kent.

One place I will try and include in my cycle is the Shipwright's Arms in Faversham.

Hi There Guys

I also live in Sittingbourne, just got back into road cycling this year. Chris is right about there being a good number of routes around the area. I live on Kemsley Fields and complete a "Tour de Sheppey", about 30 miles just as training ride after work. Roads fairly quiet out there and not too many towns to slow you down.
The other good run from Sittingbourne is the back roads from Great Easthall to Faversham and Whistable via Seasalter avoiding the A2.

Like you other guys quite happy to go out for ride some time as I'm looking for cycling partners, as at moment generally just get out on my own, though can't always get out at weekends in Kent as girlfriend lives in E. Sussex.
I may have passed you other guys locally, I ride a white Bianchi.
