I don't own an Airzound either, though I'd agree that they dont look the best engineered of things.
I think the principle is sound though (no pun intended)
I wouldn't see the refilling thing as an issue, how many times do you need to give more than a couple of blasts on the horn in a typical journey?
Perhaps there's a gap in the market for a properly engineered Airzound type product with a decent small aluminium pressure vessel and a much smaller / neater horn - Dragons Den anyone?

Whilst for the majority of journeys you probably wouldn't need to use the horn at all, I've heard from other Airzound users than it doesn't take much of a blast before it needs refilling - I'm also guessing that they may leak, and need refilling over time even if they are not used?

On the other hand, with a battery operated unit, you'll get a lot more life out of it (4Ah battery powering a sub 10A horn, in my case) and the discharge without use will be minimal with a good quality battery.

I think you're completely right about there being a gap in the market for a high quality, yet compact and neat looking cycle horn.
