Why not pop down to your local Sports Centre and do a couple of spinning sessions instead ?

Indoors, warm (very hot when you start working hard ) and lots of company around you , It seems variety is what you need, then maybe you would be inclined to pop on the trainer for the odd session.

Come on man pull yourself together and get out there and put some miles in. Come on, stop slacking, get on with it. No putting it off any longer - do it now.

Go on.

Move now.

Go and get your kit on and just do it.

Don't think about it - just do it.

Have you gone yet?

Why not?

Stop stalling...

... come on Jason...

... come on get going...

Now Jason - your letting your friends down, your letting your family down, your letting all your fellow cyclechatters down. Come on - shift your but, get going.

Any good?

What Steve said...

PLUS - when I used to run one of the best ploys for doin' it was to put your kit on (it's important to turn off your brain during this part) and make it as far as the front door - only then do you make the decision to go or not. But since you've got all togged up you may as well go anyway

. AND you feel great when you get back!

I enthusiastically recommend 'The Courage To Start' and 'No Need For Speed' both by John Bingham. They're written for runners, but apply equally well to any sport. Guaranteed to get you on the bike.

The best motivation is.....

You tell us your address, and we come round with pincers and extract your teeth until you get back on your bike.

You good for nothing fair weathered slacker you!, call yourself a man? a REAL man cycles no matter what the weather throws at him and embraces the challenge of what mother nature can throw at him. that's a REAL man!

I'm off back to bed since it's cold outside

Oh dear!! reading some of the above advice would only make me want to stuff the bike right up some ones loud arse. If the weather is rough find domething else to do, ( I find it pointless getting soaked just to prove that you can.) Get down to the gym, do a few long sessions on the weights, get to a spinning class, if the normal music from that does not get you out on the open road nothing will!!, go for a sauna if there is a reasonable one near you, you could even try Taiji (a lot harder than it looks) . The only rule to obey is "Do Something" and eventually you will get back out on the bike but do it on your terms not what some one else thinks is right.

C'mon Jason, MTFU will you.

Good advice above. Getting a group to ride with is the best way. For a few years we've had a Sunday evening ride 8 'till 10. Yep, it's a crappy time to ride, but we managed to provoke each other to get out every week during the winter.

Here's another thing though. After a long season of cycling, a period off the bike does no harm. It's hard work when you find the motivation again for the first few rides, but then you're refreshed and riding with enthusiasm again. Don't beat yourself up about it.

My father in law has Motor Neurone Disease, in April his arm would not move properly, he is now completely paralysed and cannot feed or do anything for himself and completely wheel chair bound.

When I see him I think he would be so grateful to get out on a bike no matter what the weather. People at work think I am mad for cycling the 34 miles to work, but when I explain about him and what he would give to be able to cycle, makes them think twice.

I think i am lucky at 42 to be able to still get out there, and I would hate to look back and think I lost that time on my bike.
