Motorist Passenger Abuse

Happens surprisingly regularly up here. Usually when the sun is out and these turds are driving round with the windows down. I know I shouldn't but a quick F*** off always makes me feel better.

It's very rare for me. Had a few that were a bit alarming, the worse was a guy leaning out of the back drivers side trying to push me off on a two lane road - I was in outer lane for straight on. Not much I could do, bestest bling bike, stupid carbon soled shoes, 4 big lads in car.... just glared at them at the lights...TBH, the windows were all up by then....

One set of lads got reported, yelling in my ear a few times over a couple of miles.... reg and stuff on camera, but just left it to the cops to pay a visit to the driver - the driver has responsibility of his passengers.

Oh and the idiots that threw a packet of 'watsits' at me could have aimed better - I didn't get to eat one.

Gosh.... This is quite unknown to me.

Many years ago I drove a 2CV (extraordinary piece of engineering genius), so I got loads of abuse from the unenlightened.

But on a bicycle, I've never heard anything from a car passenger.

I feel as though a select and elite club has refused my membership request....

What do I need to do to get a car passenger to yell abuse at me?

I've had it.

I ignore the knobs - if they're stupid enough to shout abuse for you doing nothing wrong, not even dragging your knuckles will get you down to their scummy level.

hehehe , i have to stop myself either shouting something similar (when driving),,, or across to someone a bit close to the kerb 'get in primary mate'...

then of course remember,, they'll just realise i'm a total idiot ...

I feel your pain - just yesterday I was screaming at a cyclist who went up the inside of a bus that was indicating to turn left at a junction. Scared the **** out of me

Ironically when I get abuse from passengers it usually accompanies what is otherwise a good overtake; Buckwits the lot of them they just want to prove the are but I don't think they realise that the rest of the world finds it boring  . It last happened to me last Tues, just after dark, my chain came off on the dual carriageway (right outside the police HQ), neds/ chavs use that section as the local drag strip! Anyway me being stopped for a few seconds gave a passing ned/chav car passenger the opportunity to chuck something at me (their aim was cr@p) and shout something which sounded like 'MehwehBBBBBBLLLLAAAA'.

What are your experiences of verbal abuse from the passengers of motorists?

I have lost count of the times these pieces of excrement feel it is a good idea to mouth off out of the window for no reason what so ever pariculary as i am benignly cycling and not bothering anyone.

How do you deal with these vermin?

The UK is a hideous country to cycle in, the motorists are filthy agressive beasts

By that you clearly ain't been out much ,and have lived a shelterd life much of your young life when you were a kid .. ...imho

I can think of only one incident when the passenger stuck their arm out as if to push me, earlier this year. His driver left so much space he obviously knew what sort of dimwit he had sat beside him.

Before, in Brixton a yoof jumped into my path and held their arms out. Since there were 4 of his mates on the pavement I decided I wasn't going to stop and he jumped aside. That was a few years ago.

Before that in a shady part of York a stone landed by my bike and I stopped and chased the thrower down the street. I don't think he expected me to turn round quite so quick!

From passengers? It's only ever happened twice. Three times if you include the finger a schoolboy gave me from the back of a bus.

A friend often reports that the worst he experiences is from the back of a school bus ... he knows to give it a good clearance.

I don't think she needs abuse thrown at her by passing cyclists, too.

I had a funny one last week. I was out on a group ride and a couple of haircuts in a black clio pulled up alongside matching our speed (a fair 20 or so), you could see them talking to each other as one slowly opened the window, clearly trying to work out the most devestating remark they could make, while we girded ourselves to take what going to come.

"Get a job!" the passenger shouted just as the driver suddenly accellerated off, the pair of them running away before we could react.

We were all very disappointed.

Don’t mind them shouting random stuff, but it’s when they beep as they overtake. The horn can be startling and dangerous when going downhill at 30 mph. Like the c0ck who did it to me last night. Lucky for him, the next set of lights were green or he’d have been in trouble.

When I was eight I was on the receiving end; I was out on a school walk and a bunch of greasers went past on big motorbikes. We boys gave them all a cheer and a wave and one of them stopped and came back and threatened us, I've no idea why, I suppose he was trying to prove to his mates how hard he was. But I remember even at the age of eight thinking it was a particularly idiotic act to turn round and threaten a bunch of schoolboys. Funnily enough I've never forgotten that experience.

This has happened to me on quite a few occasions, I don't think I have ever worked out what has been said as they shouted out the window!
