I think Swea'pea has a point.

Accidents involving 'born again bikers' statistically are less likely to involve other road users. Out in the countryside on quiet roads for example.

Younger riders tend to have more accidents in built up areas than older ones.

Maybe the copper telling me off at the time was embellishing the statistics he was waving at me, but I have no reason to believe that he was.

Can we have a permanent motorbike topic heading, please* ?! The discussions here about motorbikes are more measured and intelligent than the ones found on dedicated biker forums. Asking a specific technical question on those usually results in one of two types of answers; the first being the bleedin' f*ckin' obvious, and the second is 'Who 'f***in cares Maaaan !!!! F***in' A !! I got 140 outta mine on the turnpike an that waz without the nitro switched! Way ta go!! WoooooHoooooo!!! etc etc.

I am a cyclist/biker/driver. I find that other cyclists/bikers/drivers can be defensive/careless/aggressive towards other cyclists/bikers/drivers, irrespective of the vehicle. It's all down to the person controlling it. That being said, there do seem to be certain types of controllers who are more defensive than others, with defensive cycling/biking/driving being what we were all taught to do when we took our driving tests!

Here for rides.
Not the Military Road is it Chris?
I went for a ride round the island last Friday and got 'buzzed' a few times by motorbikes.
Like the other guys state, most are ok, just the small few.

Loads of Harley's on the Military Road when I was there, all good as gold apart from some very loud exhausts. Only moton I came across all day was behind the wheel of an Impreza Turbo. I do find the sound of a multi-cyclinder rice burner on a wide throttle to be horrid though whenever I encounter them. Give me an old school BMW or a Ducati or a Guzzi anyday.
