Getting old but not past it

Since I stopped keeping a log of all my rides, I find that I don't go out riding so often now. I still love my cycling and all to do with cycling but the motivation to go out as dropped a bit somehow. I am not asking for advice as I know from other threads what most of you will say but would just like to know how often you feel like that too.

I've only just begun to cycle with some guys with work. I've now found that my motivation to go out on my own is a lot less than before. Such as today, they cancelled and I just couldn't work up the energy to go out on my own. But instead went out with my mum for a short 10miles to get her used to road cycling and for her that's a long ride.

A couple of times a year my motivation wanes - something eg illness/injury or one of life's other traumas comes along and derails me for a short while.

This year the 2016 50k Challenge has given me a big fillip and is working very well for me - just completed 293 miles this month which is a lot for me and 4 of the rides (140 miles) were driven by the challenge - would have gotten nowhere near that total figure without it..

I maintain some fairly detailed stat's tbh and they do give me a boost - however, I only reference performance to myself & little trending gains give me a buzz if moving in the right direction or make me try a little harder if they aren't. Not interested in how I fare vs rest of the world ergo I don't do Strava etc.

Get your stat's going again and force yourself onto your bike.

I don't. I can not find enough time to ride because of my work.
But that itself may be the reason why I have motivation or I look forward to my next ride.

When you were keeping a record, what kind of mileage did you do over a week/ month?

Some people like to compete, even with themselves. We have a National Bike Challenge over here in the States, it's a lot of fun, like a mileage contest that never ends, city versus city, person versus person, group versus group. I also keep track on Bike Computer and Strava, so I can see if my times improve, or if one thing works better than another, or if I am faster at any one time of day over another.
(Answer-no. Sometimes, even retirement village rides pass me. Smart alecky old geezers...)

Ups and downs this year, I was ill with the flu and didn't ride for a month back in April, then got going again which was tough as I like TT's, so I'd lost a lot of my winter gains. Then work picked up and then cycling fell back again, and I'm now trying to squeeze in more cycling again. So for me very up and down depending on my work and my families circumstances.
It's pretty hard when you're trying to TT or do distance stuff because you need to get the miles in, and I'm not happy just wobbling round I want to compete. It's all a bit half arsed sometimes which leads to lack of mojo.

Isn't weather a factor! Most of us have had no summer to speak of and cycling is a lot more attractive when it's warm and the sun is shining!

I had three distinct losses of interest at different times...and it is reallly fustrating, can't be bothered to get out there...rueing the loss of fitness at the same time.
Post winter. When I wasnt commuting, I didnt get much winter mileage in, I hate the cold so one year I did really struggle to get going again.
Post illness. That was quite natural although extremely fustrating at the same time. Its coming slowly but the fire isnt there like it used to be...plus I'm getting older.
Lastly...I'd reached peak fitness some years ago, 80 mile rides, pushing hard all the way...and all of a sudden I started to bawlk at the idea of several hours in the saddle, I guess I'd reached the limit of my enjoyment.

Cycling mojo waxes and wanes. cycling, like most things is something you can have too much of, sometimes you need to step away then come back refreshed. It can also be affected by general tiredness, worry and minor bouts of the lurgy.
