To the OP: why do you need a bike rack at all? You sound like a batchelor to me so the bike should fit in the back of the car either complete or with the wheels off, safe from thieves, road salt, damage and rain. Also people won't follow you home to see where you store your bike.

Perhaps the OP should consider Velodrome riding, to get the mileage up, without having to deal with traffic etc.

Not available to many - few velodromes, certification required, hire of track bike (or purchase), cost of each session etc. Great fun if it's available.

Maybe you just need to find the fun element again, whatever that takes. A 5 mile spin that makes you grin
