Most expensive sport?

Was clocking up how much I've spent over the last few years of cycling...it's pretty scary (although I've had the best times and can't even begin to explain how cycling has changed my life!!).
I've not even tried to go through the costs with the wife but she's mentioned (at least a few times) that at least cycling is a cheap sport..once you've bought the bike, that's all there is!!! (I haven't shared our credit card bills for some time!!!)
So was wondering how cycling stacks up against other sports in terms of cost...
Once upon a time I played basketball...just needed trainers and a ball!

It's cheaper than skiing or sailing.

Not a patch on motor racing.

Eye watering how much I spent on that over 2 years:wacko:

Yup know what you mean! Motor racing must be astronomical but was more thinking about stuff the average Joe could afford (or not so much now I'm spending sooooooooo much!!!)

Golf, yachting, horseriding, skiing...all much more expensive than cycling I'd say...gym membership could cost £1000-2000 a year and nothing owned at the end

I don't think cycling is actually that expensive unless you want it to be. Could have a good roadbike and all the kit needed for £1000-1500 easily

If you want to void your wallet in double quick time, try a spot of heli-fishing.

At least with cycling you can recoup a lot of the cost through utility cycling and saving on transport costs. I'm struggling to figure out how to apply this to my new driver (>£200).

I don't want to derail the thread, especially as there's one on 'how much you save a week' in the commuting section already. But yes it's quite an offset per annum and does permit some luxury spending imo!

I do karate competitively and it racks up in fees. I teach so I don't pay to train but have qualified for two world champs this year which will set me back £2000. Then training alone is about £40-60 per month. Kit is pricey but does last a long time.

Spent lots of £££'s on golf over the years but it's nothing to what I've spent on cycling gear

Hoping my next hobby is cheaper
