Surely Cooke was riding SRAM? Her levers were SRAM shape and had a flash of red, and the article on BR about her new bike talked about SRAM Red.

How come there's a massive Shimano factory in Singapore, but when you try to order Shimano parts here it takes months???????

Well, SRAM thinks she was riding SRAM.

Great Britain's Nicole Cooke has won the Women's Road Race at the Olympic Games on SRAM RED drivetrain and Zipp 202's wheels. After great team work from fellow SRAM RED rider Emma Pooley, Nicole won the sprint for Gold ahead of Emma Johansson (Swe) and Tatiana Guderzo (Ita). The lightest group in the world with Zipp's new climbing wheel was the perfect choice on the toughest ever Olympic Road Race course.

With all this technology why did so many chains keep dropping off? I say let them all race on a sturmy archer 3 speed bikes costing no more that £200.
All this techno rubbish sucks and alienates the man in the street.
How are you going to attract the working class kids into bike racing if you have to spend £2000 on a power crank.

You don't, you get a power crank after you've beaten everyone else in your local race on your mum's shopper!!!!!!!
