Agree, it fell a bit flat compared to last year.
Did anyone else notice Ballan take the wrong exit on that big roundabout and get mixed up with the waiting traffic?

Wow! He certainly took a few risks at times, especially when he caught the officials' cars and nearly ran into the back of one.

The first time I've watched a race on Eurosport Player and it worked fine. I really don't like being tied to streaming times though so if anybody has worked out how to record the coverage to timeshift it - please let me into the secret!

Hi Colin,so the EP only plays what is being broadcast at the time, not streaming on demand such as the BBC iPlayer? What is the quality like?

As for FC,the man is a cycling genius. With the severity of some of those inclines I didnt think much to his chances but he just left em!The Eurosport chappie was commenting on Fab looking a bit slimmer.Well, something was right. Then he starts descending like only Fab can:eek:Hell of a guy!

They stream live (or near live) in the afternoon and then repeat the coverage one or more times in the evening and/or subsequent days. It appears that the repeats are often just an hour or so. Yesterday, I only got to see the last 18 km or so. I don't know if it would have been longer on British Eurosport via cable/satellite?

I don't want to have to watch the live feed because that ties me up in the afternoon. Paris-Nice starts today and they are showing about 2 hours then but I'll be out on my bike.

The repeats are only showing between 30 minutes and 75 minutes according to the schedules, made worse by the fact that Eurosport never seem to edit their replays very well. It's not like CH4 used to be where they used to do a whole stage of the Tour de France in 30 minutes but picked the key moments well. Often Eurosport will just show coverage from the end of a race. You could miss the key breakaway taking place and just watch the final charge for the line. That's why I want to record the live feed - I want to be able to step through 2+ hours of coverage at my own pace. If it is just a simple sprinters' stage, I'd fast forward watching for anything exciting happening and just watch the sprint. On a classic like Paris-Roubaix, I want to watch at least the final 2 hours, not 30 minutes!

The problem is that the player is very well protected so I haven't been able to find a way of recording the live stream to timeshift it. You can understand why they have protected it (to stop the coverage being passed around free on the 'net), but I have paid to watch it and I want to watch it when it suits me, not when it suits them!

Picture quality seems to depend on the speed of your connection and PC. My old desktop can't process the stream fast enough and it throttles back and keeps buffering which is pretty unwatchable. My newer laptop, however, can cope with the full-speed stream which is at 1.8 Mb/s which to me is tantalisingly close to what I want. It is almost enough to have fantastic quality, but not quite. It is perfectly watchable, but it is slightly frustrating that my equipment and broadband speed are fast enough for full-HD but it isn't available!

FC happens to be exactly the same height as me and a similar build (though super-fit, obviously!). I love to watch him in action because it shows me what a big strong cyclist can do when he puts his mind to it.

As for the descending ... er, no, not for me! I love to watch it but I wouldn't take those risks!

I just watched it. They only showed very brief highlights, but what they added was pretty interesting. They had a camera inside the BMC team coach before the race and we got to see the team briefing in English. Who would do the early riding, who had to get in breaks, who were the 3 protected riders and so on. There were no race radios so Hincapie was told to try and stay towards the front and if something happened, he had the say in what was to be done about it.

The most telling thing for me was where FC finally pulled away over the top of that steep little gravel climb. Coverage of that was shown alongside a feed from inside the team car. The BMC guys were staring at a little TV screen in the car and as Cancellara pulled out his 20 metre lead and rounded the LH bend to begin his descent - the BMC guy looked away from the screen and simply said - "It's over..." It shows the respect that they have for Cancellara, to say that 12.1 km from the finish!
