We've already covered what happens when you try to put finite limits on infinity. The mathematicians have not proved that it can't happen, only that it is rather unlikely. Even saying that the event won't happen in the lifetime of the universe is only a prediction.

The thing about chance is that a chimp is equally likely to type the works on the first go as it is on the billionth. There is a very small chance you could show up next Tuesday to find it all waiting for you. There is the same chance for you to find a play called Romeo and Julian that starts "Two households, both alike in dignity, in fair Slough, where we lay our scene".

Are you telling me that by the time the last super massive black hole evaporates through Hawking Radiation, no monkey will have typed, "To be or not to be, that is the question. "

It would be really frustrating if a monkey really their stride and started churning out iambic pentameter and the ribbon ran out.

I wonder, do the monkeys need to load their own paper, change the ribbons and clear key jams? And are they allowed to use tippex? That could change the expected production rate drastically.

So it’s been mathematically proven that from “every chimp in the world”, the works of Shakespeare could never come into existence by random events over the lifetime of the universe.

How much less likely therefore is it that from “nothing”, the works of Shakespeare along with this infinitely complex universe and everything within it come into existence by random events over the lifetime of the universe?

So a round of applause to those two Australian mathematicians who have unintentionally proven the existence of an almighty creator.

I would be really impressed if they could churn out a Skoda Octavia rather than breaking it!🤣

That really points out the point in the concept of infinite time etc

Given infinite time they could make their own paper, ink and ribbons and learn how to change the things over
probably have a civilisation where there are different classes of monkey and the "priests" do the typing, the next class down changes the ribbons and paper
and as you go down the scale you get to the lower classes who mine the ore to make the steel

and a seperate class develops which looks after workers' rights and starts to fight for the rights of gay monkeys and the freedom of female monkeys to

errr

I might be over thinking this a little bit

at least I stopped before I started on about the US election - which I was heading for in my mind!!!!
(we don't want any of that on here after all!!)

Don't be silly ,they would use computers , Laptops, and AI technologies, not 'ye old skool ' typewriters and paper, Monkeys aren't stupid ! They can use tools.

Well, in my example above them obviously they would eventually

but I was talking about the earlier stage

but clearly they would use something better than Windows
and easier to use than Apple (ask anyone who has had to configure an hybrid environment in a business without an unlimited budget!!!
