This just popped up on facebook.
The elderly scooter man is going to get hurt if he continues to ride like that, regardless of whether he may have had priority.

As a driver I am going to be mainly looking right at that junction. I wouldn’t be expecting a kamikaze mobility scooter on my left.

What say the brains of CC?

look both ways at all junctions. obey the highway code, pedestrians, mobility scooters etc all have priority in that situation. you should be expecting them, youre in a town, with pavements not a motorway sliproad

^ Wot they said. Always look both ways. It's a busy junction.
It looks like the car was turning left. If they only (or mainly) been looking right they were turning onto a space with seeing if it was clear for people crossing the main road, parked cars etc. P*ss poor driving

Is it my eyes, or was the mobility scooter on the main road going the wrong way along the carriageway? Hard to be sure with the quality of the footage.

Edit - pretty sure he was. There are white markings, possible cycle lane, on the main road and he's beyond the give way lines but inside the outer markings.

The driver should of course look left as a matter of common sense or self-preservation, but riding a mobility scooter the wrong way along a road is a slam dunk dangerous driving of its own.

That was what I thought too.
And even if the scooter had priority, they were travelling very quickly without much awareness.

He’s definitely on the road.
If you watch slowly the mini in front barely misses him as they turn out.

He was travelling the wrong way. He is an idiot. But in that space could be a parked car. Or a person crossing the main road. Or road works. Or any number of things. The one driving the massive lump of metal should check the space they are driving into is clear. If they fail to do so and hit something they should be fined. Particularly if the are entering a road.

Look at it another way. What if the road they were entering was a narrow road and there were parked cars. The vehicle coming from the left could have been in the same road space as that was the only clear lane on a narrow road. The car entering the road should always check it is clear, even for vehicles on the wrong side who might be there.

The driver hadn't actually entered the road he was turning into, he had just reached the give way lines as the scooter came across.

Yes he had. The scooter was within the dotted lines on the main road. As they collided the driver had moved into the dotted lines (cycle path?) and had therefor crossed the give-way lines

I think the scooterist is in a painted cycle lane on the roadway, but going the wrong way. In this pic scooty-man is just appearing on the left (the two dots one above the other are his lights) and you can see what might be a painted bike on the road in front of him and the white dashes outlining the cycle lane.

I think that the scooterist is clearly barking mad and indulging in unsafe behaviour. The driver, however, also made a pretty big mistake in not looking both ways and assuming that he would be clear in that lane to the left. There could have been a pedestrian crossing the road, or all sorts. For instance a raving lunatic in a mobility scooter, as he found out.
