I'm after a 5G mobile hotspot router flim flam for the campervan. It'll need to be either 12v or USB powered.

Do any of you good folk, or Accy, have any experience of such a doobrey that you could recommend one?

Chin chin.

SIM free or would you be looking at starting a new contract?

Take a gander at Andy in Germany's 4G 5G thread in here for some ideas if you want a WiFi hotspot

Mrs D will sort out the SIM side, so SIM free.

Mrs D's mobile is provided by work so I can't spank her data (I can spank her when shes been a naughty girl though;) )

How is she going to sort out the SIM side if you can't use her data?

The SIM is only the means by which you access the data, but it is linked to the data plan of the account it is connected to. You can't get data via a SIM without usung the data from that plan.

The only reason for using a non-SIM 5G hotspot router would be to boost the WiFi power to something more than youyr pone can manage.

I supposedly live in a 5G area but only get 1mb/s. It's such a poor service when travelling i opt for 4g mode, which is much more consistent. Right now, its 90x faster.

Wifi is 100s of times faster, even in the room with poor wifi reception!

We don't even get true full spec 5G jn the UK anyway.

My geekiness is clearly out of date as i have no idea what compromises have been made. If it was a useable service might be more interested.

All rather disappointing when i'm so close to London and the M25. The coverage maps seem to be a complete fiction.
