missing mouse trap

went in to garage last night to get tub of bird seed out and noticed some of the rim was missing along with a couple of black droppings on the lid , so out came the trusty old mouse trap and a piece of bait .

so imagine my surpise when i go in garage this morning and the trap has gone , after looking for about 10 mins i find it about 4 ft away from initial place and stuck between the base of a couple of plant pots ..........

the little furry creaturestill attached to it had tried to escape complete with trap and was still trying when i found it

pesky vermin will be released tonight on my way to sandy to collect a bike

Friend of mine once got a paniccy call from his Mum. She'd put a humane trap down in the kitchen, and come down in the middle of the night to a strange clattering noise. The mouse had been trapped, then gnawed a hole in the flap large enough to get head and front legs out, but was stuck by the hips, and hauling the trap around on the worktop.

My friend had to go round with a hacksaw and cut the trap off it, whereupon it was released in the garden.

I had a similar experience with a rat trap in the garden. Put the trap out late afternoon and checked the following morning. No rat. No trap either. After a couple of minutes poking around I found the trap complete with very dead rat attached. It had been dragged off and was stuck in a hole in the rockery. (that's where they had a nest)
The caught rat would have been dead immediately so it wasn't him that moved the trap.
I found that a little unsettling too because either the other rats were just being opportunist and looking get an easy snack back to the nest or they were trying to rescue Uncle Fred.
I think it was the latter because apart from the damage done by the trap the dead rat was pretty much intact.

I feel particularly humane on disposal of the mice I get in my garage who seem to have an affinity for the gel pads in cycling gloves. I've had four pairs ruined (and they're not cheap) by the outer material being nibbled away to reveal the (I'm sure) delicious gel beneath. They also seem to like some element of Brasher boots. My wife had a virtually new pair of Brasher's gnashed away at and my latest pair has clear evidence of the padding around the ankle being gnawed and the stuffing is starting to spill out.

That reminds me of a few years ago, the reason why I started to keep cats: in the middle of night, reading, suddenly this small squeak, lift my eyes a mous in the hus
Never knew I was terrified of mice until I stared one in the whiskers!
The mous ran, I jumped, never slept a wink.
Next day I borrowed a cat from a neighbourg, sleept with that cat in my bed until I got my own, then kept the two just in case

re set trap last night and caught another one

Set the trap perpendicular to the skirting board or wall with spring arm facing into room and bait towards the wall, mice run along walls and side entry almost always results in an instant death.

For bait, dog food or cat food with a hole drilled in middle with a needle and then use fuse wire to tie to the trigger, they can't steal it and have to pull almost always setting the trap off.

Also make the trigger as light as possible.

I often have to search my garage looking for a missing mouse trap.
Always the same the trap has caught the mouses leg.
I always take them out into the garden and release them.
Not got the heart to kill them myself.
