Tall women do it for me. Don't knock Miranda, she's dead funny.
Got more than a hint of the Look-straight-at-the-Camera-Frankie-Howerd about her comedic style.

I like her. The fact that she is so quirky and unorthodox, like a big female galoot.

So I really wanted it to work, but..........oh its shoot. All that waving stuff at the end???

How this is on when the magnificent Still Game was kicked into touch is beyond me.

Thought she was OK in 'Not Going Out' but haven't seen any of this 'miranda' show.
On a slightly different topic, anyone seen the Jo Brand sit com about nursing? Had to turn off after 10mins of the 1st episode absolute dog poo,and I normally like her stuff

I think my favourite female comedian is Josie Long, at the moment.

Not a fan of Miranda, personally, although I only know her tv show, not her stand up - and is it a big deal that she's a woman? I think John bishop (currently top of the Comedy DVD charts) is bloody awful, and he's pandering to a stereotype too...

Susie thought she was hilarious, but I didn't quite get it.

It did seem to be a bit odd that almost all women on television are a certain size and shape (and age) and Miranda, as the exception, seemed to be more concerned about the fact that she wasn't that certain size and shape than anything else. I know that Ronnie Corbett and Ernie Wise went on and on about their height, and, in a way, that was about television comedy finding it's way away from radio, but plenty of comedy doesn't rely on the appearance of the comic.

And, after all, we've only got Jim Jeffries word for it that he has a small dick.

My flatmate and I have opposite TV tastes, so if we're both at home we end up watching stuff that neither of us loves or hates. Miranda has met this slightly bland criterion on a few occasions. Arch might like to know that I shared a train vestibule from Swansea to London with Gorgeous Gary (aka Tom Ellis) and his small daughter recently. Or she might not. I'm ambivalent (about the programme - Ellis is a fine figure of a man in the flesh). I rather like Patricia Hodge in it, and Sally Phillips, but I have problems with the Big-Women-Are-Inherently-Risible thing. Still, she does at least confront that assumption head-on, and most of the comic situations are about misunderstandings resulting from self-conscious attempts to fit in socially with complete tossers, but the underlying contempt wins through - sort of Larry-David-Lite. And I like slapstick! Like Arch I don't think that female self-deprecation is necessarily unfunny, as long as it is authentic in some way (like Jo Brand's great gag - "I think I'm anorexic - I look in the mirror and see a fat person")...

Mrs OTH fnds nothing funny in her show (we we have not got further than the trailer).

I cannot remember who said it but do rememeber a comic saying something like "a man falling over on a banana skin is funny, but if a woman does it you feel sorry for her and it is not funny".
I think this is a basic human trait and women doing slapstick is just not funny.

Steptoe and Son would not have worked with a woman in it.

TV is full of slim and attractive women (OK some exceptions)
I think Miranda may work because she is not attractive or slim so takes pressure off women and perhaps makes them feel better about themsleves.

Sorry that is a sexist comment from a bloke but I am sure you will let me know if I am off target.

I find it mildly amusing. Doesn't always hit the spot, but occasionally does. I'm sure there's funnier stuff out there though.
