The sensor on my solar panel is showing -9C right now (07:30) and my outdoor thermometer on the garage wall is showing -5.6C so I'm sure the lower one is accurate as it's on the roof, clear of the mass of the building.

Think I might postpone this morning's road ride by a couple of hours until the sun's well up! Had a nice little MTB ride anyway yesterday with Gti junior and some kids and teachers from his school. It was bitter on the tops even early in the afternoon.

Still haven't seen any LCC gritters out though and no sign of grit on the roads - they must be hoarding it ready for the snow.

-9 in Redditch too, crikey that's flipping cold for so early in the winter!

Hopefully not a sign of things to come.

So its either the MTB, rollers or turbo for me this morning?

Well yesterday the trails were either bone dry or sheet ice, so no need to clean the bikes after the ride.

I did a MTB ride yesterday down the towpath, and while the ground is indeed bone dry, it was also bloody hard!

Not helped of course by riding a proper hardtail MTB.......

I used to love MTBing in cold weather and not having to clean the bike afterwards.

XC weather says it's minus ten at Woodford and minus nine at Manc Airport so it must be something like that round here. Still no snow though.

Has anyone a recommendation for an outdoor thermometer please? I bought one from a garden centre last year and ended up taking it back cos it were rubbish.

Got mine from Aldi about 2 yrs ago made of plastic 2 inches square. The main body of it hangs in the shed but attached is a sensor which goes on the outside works a treat

Our thermometer is an Oregun but since we've got the sensor attached to the garage wall it over-reads. You need the sensor well away from the mass of the building.

Driving to work this morning ( I have the car at the weekends), I drove my bike commute route to assess the roads for tomorrow cycle commute.

At a locally well known crossroads, where Sunday morning riders meet, I was surprised to see 3 old codgers

there on skinny wheels and another further down the road who was cycling up to meet them.

-6 and these old bones are off for their Sunday morning blast on skinny wheels?? I'm definitely commuting tomorrow.
