Two years ago I started cycling. I struggled hard and managed to complete a 26 mile charity ride. Today I did 50 miles, my longest since August last year and it included Newlands corner and Box hill in Surrey. I'm feeling slightly chuffed. I might be slow. But it's faster than sitting on the sofa. :bicycle:^_^

Good one mate. Don't worry about speed and all that tosh. Getting out and doing it is what counts. I started with a 3 mile ride nearly 30 years ago and last year finished my first ever 100 mile. So, 100 miles next...?

Climbs I remember well from my youth, you would find me on them most weekends when I was 14 or 15. I lived in Hanworth and they made a good circuit.

Thanks for bringing back fond memories of 45 years ago.

It took you 30 years to do 100 miles?
Yes. Do you not understand typing?

But seeing as you've asked, I spent years as a mountain biker, years when I didn't cycle and years when I was content to do 25 or 30 mile rides, 6 months when I cycled 4000 miles across Australia and as it happens, the last couple of years deciding to bump my mileage up to try the ton. This year I thought I'd try 200k. Have you a problem with any of this?

Sorry, I was just trying to be flippant. It won't happen again!!

100 miles is august 2nd
It may be easier than you think. As long as you have a flattish route and crank the miles up to around 80-90 the week before. I loved my first ton. But at the risk of stating the obvious, you need to prepare. Good luck - enjoy!

Thanks but no thanks. I think I'll pass.

Well done. The speed doesn't matter. Hope you enjoyed the ride.

Good stuff

My cycling buddy did 50 today too. We are also doing the London Surrey 100 on the 2nd August

We were going to finally tackle Leith Hill but I got ridiculously cold, so we came back via Box hill instead (having come down it earlier)!

Don't worry about being slow, I can guarantee you, you were at least 20x faster than the fat bustards sat on the sofa smoking and eating wotsits and I always think to myself, that is what matters really.

If you have done a fifty, it shouldn't be too big a jump for you to do a 100 at all. Just remember to stuff your face regularly on the ride :mrpig:
