This news item caught my eye. Musk's Starlink has released a portable version of their terminal, light enough to carry around (slightly above 1 kg), slim enough to fit in a backpack and apparently with power consumption modest enough to be satisfied by a portable power bank. One of the articles suggests it might be useful to backpackers - of which I'm skeptical (still too heavy and power hungry for a mean lean backpacker machine). But consider if you're a cycling tourer, who relies on their ability to either push content onto the net (i.e., whose livelihood depends on their patrons), or react to events in the world (i.e., those working on the go), and who on the other hand have enough space in their panniers and juice in their solar-fed power bank to make this work. What do you think?

To me one of the main attraction of backpacking and bikepacking or cycle touring is the simplicity of it. Get away from all the man made complications of life and exploring the real world.
