Just went out for my lunch ride near Henley, Oxfordshire, just entering the town, at a fair pace, car goes past and shouts "oy you ****ing *****er" , blue Peugeot 207, no Reg taken.

I mean, why?

Just why?

I was going to pursue but had already committed to a turn with a tipper truck nearby, so lost him.

Here for rides.
There is no such thing as "Minding my own business on my bike" at lunch time. Or any other time of day. Or night.

The act of cycling is an explicit rejection of UK car culture and the warped set of social-norms that go with it. You are part of an "out group" and better get used to it. Your simple ride is perceived as sticking two fingers up at convention. Aboard a bicycle you represent everything a motorhead hates. And you pay no "road tax", aren't insured, have no registration and clearly are not hard working since you take lunch breaks and are not driving a car. You probably think you look good in lycra. You are everything motorheads despise. No wonder a moron in a tin box feels the need to abuse you.

Well done btw. Lunch time riding. Excellent stuff. Keep it up.

There are just some right twats out there. Friday I was working, loading the vehicle on the off side, on a quiet residential street, and someone skims past me at 30, blasting his horn. If I'd happened to step back... There was plenty of room to pass, he just had to show off and make some point or other.

Sadly I wasn't quick thinking enough, or when he had to wait to get out of the road at the end, I'd have been there emptying recycling onto his bonnet before beating him to death with a Lambrini bottle.

I got "tosser" from a crowd of 'the youth' on the way home on Saturday,. They weren't even on the road. Maybe it's the hot weather making everyone grumpy?

How do you know he wasn't just shouting at the voices in his head, I do it all the time.

Sometimes I do it when the voices aren't talking, it puts other cyclists off trying to get acknowledgement from you as they're too busy trying to pedal away from you!
