<> Aaargh!! etc. Why do sites like refuelwithchocolatemilk seem unable to tell you what's so 'superfood' about the chocolate bit? Yes, we know that chocolate milk has protein and carbs and stuff in it, and that it repairs muscle and replenishes muscle and liver glycogen, which is good for you and everything, but then so is/does bog-standard milk. The way that people bang on about chocolate milk you'd think that cocoa possessed some magical top-secret properties only known to sports nutritionists and they're not telling cause we wouldn't understand. And which chocolate milk while I'm at it? That cheap stuff in the supermarkets looks revolting and I can only imagine contains a shedload of sugar and other goodies. </ed reardon>

Oh and bananas, any other fruits lying around, yogurt, and soy milk - all shooszh'd up in a blender. :addict:

Or regular semi-skimmed moo-juice for when I can't be arsed.

All sorts of goodies in cocoa - look it up separately. That's why a couple of squares of dark chocolate (min 60% cocoa solids) a day is good for you.

Do not know why but I am quite surprised I am the only Skimmed milk advocate, since my gradual conversion 20 years ago I cannot stand Full Fat milk and semi is bearable but would avoid if other choices.

I get through at least a pint if not more of Skimmed daily. Taken post commute. So apart from fat in Semi, what else am I missing out on?

Approximately two thirds of the fat in milk is saturated. Good or bad for you? Saturated fats play a number of key roles in our bodies: from construction of cell membranes and key hormones to providing energy storage and padding for delicate organs, to serving as a vehicle for important fat-soluble vitamins

I used to drink chocolate milk (shop bought stuff rather than home mix) after a ride but I don't bother now. Water/remains of bidon does for me, and sometimes a tin of mackerel or a rollmop.

I am curious as to peoples' reasons for low/non fat milk over full fat though.

Being somebody who's only really happy when analysing everything to the nth degree, I've rooted around a bit and it seems it's the relative amounts of carb and protein in chocolate milk that make it slightly better than unflavoured for use as a recovery drink - primarily because of the higher sugar content. And, er, that's about it. Implies that adding (any flavour of) Nesquick to milk will be just as good. Unfortunately, I can't see any evidence that the chocolate per se adds anything to the mix, apart from giving adults an excuse to drink chocolate milk, as mcshroom suggests!

Also this from Wiki.

A number of studies indicate that chocolate milk aids in recovery when taken after athletic workouts. A study at Loughborough University found that Milk was an effective rehydration drink.[6] In a 2010 report it was studied with 13 college soccer players with results in favor of chocolate milk workout supplementation.[7] In a 2006 study, authors believed the benefits were due to its ratio of carbohydrates to protein, among other nutritional properties.[8] However, this study was small in scale with only nine athletes and partially funded by the dairy industry. Furthermore, the study compared chocolate milk to two energy drinks and unflavored milk was not used as a comparison, so it is unknown if chocolate milk is superior to unflavored milk as a recovery drink.

Also discovered that factory made soy milk isn't the spectacularly wonderful source of nutrition I thought it was either - so goodbye to that in 2012!
