In the last couple of weeks I've been using thin gloves instead of fingerless mitts and my baggy shorts have given way to tights or bib knickers. I thought the first snows came in October last year but my photographs show it appearing in late November. It was certainly glorious to be out in the autumn sun yesterday.

It's an immense contrast from this time last year, isn't it? I've reverted back to mitts because my hands were sweating so much in gloves that they stuck on and it was a struggle to get them off.

nearly had a stroke due to the heat

I share your pain - earlier this week, I set off to work before 7am, cold and misty (and dark) in longs with l/s top, by 9am I was roasting and red. The sun was out, I arrived at work, cue comments 'you look a bit hot, are you feeling ok?'

Long may it continue - I plan to eat my lunch outside today!

I've only worn full gloves once so far and up top have just added a HH base under a ss jersey. Did have my windproof on though for the first half of my ride on Sunday. Find my legs don't get cold so still way off covering them up (and many would say they need covering!)

Just checking back on my training logs, and it was below 10c this time last year, and we hit the snow and ice towards the end of November/early December.

Most of my commutes from late November to Christmas 2010 were on the MTB with spikes - just had 5 days on the road bike in a month !

I know we are going to have a mild winter because my colleague told me it was going to be really cold because the gulf stream has stopped and anyway a mountain rescue guy and a teacher told him so.

He's almost always wrong.

Looking at my records for last year the first outing for the spiky tyres was 29th Nov. I don't record temperatures tho', just equipment and general weather.

I rode the black run at Glentress on Saturday, 3/4 length baggies, long sleeve base layer and top, and full gloves, one of the guys snapped a gear hanger so we waited around for a short while, I was starting to get very cold, and at the top the puddles were ba$tard cold, the route does go up to about 600m though. Out last night for a couple of hours, long legs and sleeves, and a hat on all the time, but it was a beautiful night.

thats it november , and still balmy or should that be barmy , bright sunshine again bit chilly when i set off this morning so wore longs and a thicker top came back home in a modest heatwave about an hour ago ,

not complaining its great just impossible to dress correctly for on longer rides were your either setting off in the early cold or returning in the cold

of night (thats if its an open sky otherwise its warmish aswell )

surely winter ground frosts cant stray away much longer ,

enjoy it while we can wont be long until we are skidding around and blowing on our fingers eh

i can remember on two occasions early and mid november last year being caught out with no base layers and nearly crying with the cold coming back from argyll area , no joke it was perishing white frost everywhere ,

was up that way today and people were in t shirts :sun:

Well I set off this morning lulled into a false sense of security, with bib-shorts and mitts, though I did put on my longsleeve HH base layer. Two miles in I had to stop and put on my windproof jacket with very cold fingers. I did over 30 miles, but was down to 2 degrees for much of it, with lots of white frost at the side of the road.

Longs and gloves tomorrow - if I make it out at all.
