Good job he was wearing a helmet although it clearly hasn't done much good. Come on Michael :hugs:

One of my childhood idols, followed his career through the highs and (more recently) the lows, I just hope he pulls through this...

Apparently, there will be a statement about his condition at 10 a.m, fingers crossed for positive news.

Ski helmets are light, thin and as far as I can see, only designed to make profit for the manufacturers. However they do endow the wearer with a strong sense of superiority similar to that enjoyed by people who wear flouro jackets and stick St Christopher medals on their car dashboards.

Of course helmets offer a degree of protection but not invulnerability. Sudden deceleration will rattle the brain around like a marble in a can, helmet or no helmet, and that's what does the damage. Been there, done it and was also conscious for a while before passing out. The best thing would be for the bleeding to stop of its own accord so he won't need surgical relief of pressure. When (hopefully soon) he regains consciousness he'll have lost a lot of faculties and hopefully he'll get 'em back as the brain recovers. Can vividly remember returning to the real world thinking I made perfect sense when others just heard gibberish. Plus ça change..

Having a fair bit of vicarious experience of French hospitals I'd say Schumacher will get as good care as he could anywhere.

I agree, Senna's helmet didn't do him much good either, but then again it wasnt tested to withstand the impact from broken front suspension.
Hope MS makes a recovery like James Cracknel and Richard Hammond
