However we can bring it back on line...

In parts of Australia helmets are compulsory, and it is common to fine cyclists for not wearing one. However one cyclist refused to pay on the grounds that wearing a helmet risked her safety by increasing the chances of injury.

When she go to Court the Judge was supportive and stated:

'I frankly don't think there is anything advantageous and there may well be a disadvantage in situations to have a helmet - and it seems to me that it's one of those areas where it ought to be a matter of choice.''

(The defendant holds )''an honestly held and not unreasonable belief as to the danger associated with the use of a helmet by cyclists''
Although she was found guilty of not wearing a helmet, the conviction was quashed

That seems quite odd, as most groups seem to have a pro-choice or pro-helmet position - I don't think there are any seeking to discourage helmet use

Well... there's me 'n' Mickle. A small but impossibly stylish faction. And, if he existed, we'd have God on our side.

Court is not an option ! I want to make money, not spend it. don't you know the country is up sh*t creek without a paddle^_^

I thought that protection against financial issues was included.

I know someone who rides a bike and wears a helmet. He is saving money since he started commuting by bike.
This proves that helmets save you from financial problems.

60% of head injuries are alcohol related............ I hope that isn't beer!

Interesting one from RoSPA:

Cyclist Helmets

RoSPA recommends that all cyclists wear a cycle helmet that meets a recognised safety standard. Cycle helmets, when correctly worn, are effective in reducing the risk of receiving major head or brain injuries in an accident.
It is recognised that helmets do not guarantee protection for the wearer, nor prevent accidents from happening in the first place. The most effective ways of reducing cyclist accidents and casualties are to improve the behaviour of drivers, improve the behaviour of cyclists and to provide safer cycling environments. However, wearing a cycle helmet is a simple, low cost and effective way that individual cyclists can protect themselves.

So it appears that RoSPA support the view that Helmets are notthe magic answer and that drivertraining would be more effective!

The weakness in the RoSPA claim is that it appears limited to accidents. I believe most road crashes leading to head injuries are not accidental ...

But then they spell RoSPA with an 'A'. Time to update it methinks.
