Rather to my surprise I quite like the look of that. I personally wouldn't buy it, if only because I like to work on my own bikes and I don't know anything about belt drives or internal gears - and I suspect if anything did go wrong it might be a bit of a bugger finding someone willing and able to work on it. But I do think it looks quite tasty.

It's a touring bike Jim but not as we know it. Seven speed internal on a tourer? Pah! The elevated chainstays which allow the belt to be replaced also allow the bottom bracket to sway disconcertingly from side to side, it's a layout which was tried and abandoned twenty years ago.

More over engineered, overpriced rubbish from a car company. Land Rover push rebadged Pashley's and SAAB launched an equally lame bike last year. I will wager that it's not made in Germany but in Taiwan.

This is what Land Rover are doing nowadays.

BMW made a folding bike about ten years ago. A guy at MIRA brought one in (freebies from Germany) and I rode it round the car park.
Collectors item now.

Lates 'Top Gear', spit, spit, ,,, has an article on Motor companies who are building 'badged' bikes.
Would you pay 8950 euros for an 'off the peg' carbon frame, Campag kitted bike with an Alfa Romeo sticker on it?

;)

I'm not interested in the frame but the hubs and lights and bars and stuff, so I'm gonna keep an eye on this.

Thanks to my Merc's (I know, I know ) non-Japanese reliability, I've been a regular at our local dealership since I bought the effing thing. Every time I pop in there's this same Merc-badged hybrid plonked on either an M-class, an E-class estate or any other car to which they wish to apply some lifestyle turd-polish.

It looks a respectable bike but vastly overpriced at £900. Unlike the ebay bike, its all standard components with the usual shimano bits and a chain. I think they just produce these things as a bit of greenwash.

As you say, bollo, it's in the best traditions of the brand.

I got sucked into getting a Merc once. Not reliable, didn't hold its value and very expensive to run. I've moved up to a diesel Astra.
