When I was a kid only poor kids wore "jelly shoes " or plastics sandals as they called in the 60's.

Silicon is a great material for shoes - I wouldn't wear these high ones either but it's fantastic - the flat pair I wear for cycling are rather jolly but they have better grip on slippery surfaces than most rugged outdoorsy sandals I've worn. They're waterproof and I can also walk all day in them. If I do start to get a blister from a new pair, I only need to put lipsalve on the place and the blister is stopped in its tracks - no need for a plaster. I'm disappointed the strap has come away on this pair but I have another pair I've owned for several years which are still perfect, especially as if they get dirty all you need to do is wipe them with a damp cloth.
