I suspect that will be the case in a lot of areas: the CE standard is widely recognised as Gold Standard worldwide so...
It is, but there's a problem. So many cokpanies have abused it, slapped it on devices that don't conform, and even go as far as producing counterfeit confirmity certificates, the CE is now cheelily known as "Chinese Export".

A friend of mine was responsible for signing off several products. He took his job seriously and went through all of the required steps but there was sometimes pressure to rush the self certification through. He always refused, saying that he wasn't going to put his name on a document saying that a product had been tested and found to be legally compliant, unless (a) It had been tested, and (b) He was sure that it was compliant!

Finally dug out my old hifi bits from various cubby holes. The cheap and nasty stand was looking tired, so I masked it up and repainted it with cream eggshell. Looks pretty good.

Next will be to rub down and repaint the speaker stands.

Before anyone asks the amp is a hoofing great Kenwood, Trio tuner, Technics tape deck and Kenwood turntable. Cannae find the CD player anywhere, so replaced it for now with a redundant blu ray player.

I tracked it down!

It was sufficiently close to its original location that I might have been responsible for moving it...

It was hidden behind the back of the Shimano shoe box full of bank statements that are lying around as a reminder to fill in my tax return!

It looks fixable. I tried simply wedging a piece of plastic in before but it only lasted a few uses before it got twisted out of position and fell out. I'll fix it more permanently this time.
I find gorilla glue has a multitude of uses.

I wasn't too impressed by a new German Autobahn which was featured on Massive Engineering Mistakes this week! It was built to cross a peat bog and they sank 30 metre foundation piles into 50 metre deep peat... The road quickly broke up and started collapsing!

One side effect of Germany's admittedly good engineering heritage, is that people tend to put a bit too much faith in it, as if technology will solve everything.
