I'm a man.

I'm considering a pair of bib shorts, which would be a new thing for me.

But I worry about nipple rub.

Given that about 50% of the cycle clothing I've ever bought never gets worn, because it turned out to be sub-optimal in some way or other, I'm keen not to splash out on bib shorts, then end up with umpteen pairs trying to find the "one".

These look like a good idea...

... in terms of avoiding the nipples. I tried to find a picture of them without a sports bra, but strangely, couldn't. I'd prefer NOT to be forced to wear a base layer under them.

1. Has anybody seen any of these for men? With the nipple-avoiding front brace?

2. Or have any men here tried them?

I don't actually think I need a pad, by the way. I've got padded liners, and tried them a couple of time. But usually ride without, with no problems. I can only assume I've got a perfect match between my rear end and my Brooks. I do have very comfortable knickers I use, including a pair of unpadded cycling specific Planet X ones.

Cheers

They are fine, you are over thinking it. Bib shorts for the win. Always use a base layer as two layers of fabric are better when you come off, reduces friction. Also base layers are cheaper than ruining an expensive top

I wear padded undershorts, and whenever I've looked up/asked about the reasons for bib shorts, it's to ensure the pad is in the same place all the time and to stop the shorts moving around - I've never had a problem with this, maybe because of my body shape, so I don't need them. Reading the above, I'm not sure why you would need them if you don't use/need a pad? What's the driver for considering them?

At the very least, having to strip naked to do a shoot is one very good reason to avoid bib shorts if you can possibly help it, let alone the cost saving.

Always wear bibs, or padded shorts. The padding ensures your deicate bits are in the correct place, especially if you are in and out of the saddle.

Do you suffer from nipple rub when wearing a shirt or tee-shirt ? If not why do you think cycling would irritate them ?

It's not like running.

I've never heard of nipple rub in cycling in all my years.

What’s wrong with the stuff you’ve bought before?

I always wear a bib. Keeps my back comfy. I find straight shorts cut in and I get giraffes running round my lower back.
Don't get rub .

I find it varies from one pair to another, and gets worse as the Lycra modulus reduces with age and washing, but the fix is to roll the waistband down lower so that there's less Lycra to stretch between the waistband and crotch.

I measured waistband modulus of several Lycra shorts, and it tension varies by as much as 3:1, even for the 'same size' shorts:

I wouldn't touch bibs with a bargepole, too much faff having a pee.

Neither have I, but I always understood the other reason was to avoid a gap between shorts and the jersey at the back, which could be cold.
