She is a 'Doctor'. That is - she does have a PhD in - something or other... conferred at some institution or other. Not medicine...

Yes, but she bought it for $6 000 or so, according to Ben Goldacre's "Bad Science". Not that I care, I'd rather be fat than be Gillian McKeith and you wouldn't get me near the telly when "I'm a Nonentity ..." is on.

EDIT: Beaten to it by Mikeitup!

In past years I've only caught the show intermittently, but it's very entertaining this time round, even if the public's continual voting of the fake doctor feels a bit like bullying at times... I reckon what with this and the pro-Wagner vote on x factor, we may be witnessing the beginning of the end of the reality show... they can't keep up with the public undermining the premise of these shows.

Slightly off topic, but the success of John Sargent and Anne Widecombe in Strictly Come Dancing is another nail in this coffin as the programme makers are forced to look at what they are producing... a serious programme on dancing or the public at a modern equivalent of bear baiting!

I wouldn't necessarily view the public's perversity when voting on Strictly and Dreck Factor as being like blood sport - it's a combination of a love of the underdog with the kind of perversity in public taste that propels execrable "novelty" acts to the top of the pop charts, plus a side order of tweaking the noses of the judges.

On the other hand, the bush tucker trials in I'm A Nonentity, Resurrect My Career! is definitely the nearest thing we have these days to the stocks. Never have so many redial buttons been abused in the cause of issuing karmic pimp-slaps to deserving cases.

As for repeated bush tucker trials constituting cruel and unusual punishment, it could be argued that as this particular variety of freakshow has been running for several series, contestants can't say that they haven't been warned!

GM's daughter was interviewed by phone on Scofield's mid morning show earlier in the week.  She is early teens and called Skyle.  She said they don't have a TV so had only seen bits of the show before GM signed up.   .  PS and Holly were restrained when talking about GM because the poor girl was quite young.  They only just managed to stop them selves laughing out loud at times.

I hate this program, but find myself watching it since knowing Dom Jolly would be on it, always been a fan of him. Love how he rips McKeith, she's a ridiculous human being, pathetic.

I think we have three groups that have a hand in this-
1 The programme makers
2 The "Celebs"
3 The public

The programme makers are doing a great job. Ratings are good for these shows and they get lots of air time and shift lots of ads. So they are in the clear.

The public mostly turn their back on such shows but there are enough to get swept along with it to make it a success. Crowds used to turn out for public hangings so nothing new really.

Is the fault with the "celebs" for putting themselves up for this? I have only seen about 30 minutes of the show in total but it seems Nigel Havers drew a line and would not subject himself to any more so left. If Gillian does not want to do the show then she just has to walk off, not mess around fainting!
The fact that they still seem to be able to find people desperate enough to do such things and to keep doing them to stay in the thing to win some worthless title is beyond me. If the celebes did not go in for it then there would not be a show.

I am given to understand that if gillian "walks off" then she won't get her fee. However, if she is removed on medical grounds then she does. Hence the messing around.

What a pathetic example of a has-been celeb (sh*t examiner) squealing and whinging her way through doing nothing. If she is trying to get the public to feel sorry for her she has got it wrong and must realise that as they vote for her every chance they get. If it's true they don't have a TV at home she probably hadn't seen the show before signing up so what did she think it was about. Missed last night so didn't see Nigel flounce off. Was he still using the excuse that being 60 he didn't want his family to see him in a pretend prison uniform.
I can't see folks voting to get Gillian out as they will lose their pet screamer. She may win or at least get to the final and think she is still popular  .

The Wiki entry is not headed with the customary "This section has multiple issues" which, as everyone knows, is Wiki's coded message to mean "This section is a load of cr@p". Therefore I'm inclined to think, Wiki is worth reading through in this instance.

And of course, I have read Ben Goldacre!

There are very, very, very few people in this world to whom I would actively wish to see harm come, but she's one of them.

She's the worst sort of pseudo-scientific, lowest-common-denominator, fame-seeking quack who bullies people who are already depressed and have self-esteem issues just so she can have her 30 minutes of celebrity every week. For which she gets paid an effing fortune.

I did the Aberfeldy tri a few years back and was staying in a B&B. At breakfast there was a couple behind me. The woman looked suspiciously like TAPL and she was with a chap who may have been her litigious husband (I've never seen a picture of him so couldn't say). He had scrambled tomatoes, whatever that is, she had bacon and egg. They both complained about the lack of ginseng tea. Well. She complained for both of them.

If it was her then where was her vegan diet?

I may be being thick but what is TAPL?
