Courtesy is a kindness that costs nothing , certainly a maxim I try to live by.
But you or they get it wrong then I most certainly be moved to anger, maybe that's my Celtic heritage,
Except when dealing with moronic insurance agencies, no patience with them!

In a similar vein, courtesy is to be expected. Respect has to be earned.

From one of those Nigel Rees graphiti books that used to be so popular.
"Work is like a 5h1t sandwich. You can eat any amount of 5h1t provided the bread is thick enough."

On the subject of politeness

Can;t remember who - but either my Dad or one of the family friends once told me that my Mum had a method of dealing with rude people

She was unfailingly polite and pleasant to them
went out of her way to say a cheery "Good Morning" - compliment them on their hair/clothes etc

no matter how much the dismissed what she said and how much they ignored her - she was polite and cheerful

It drive them MAD trying to work out why!!

and it is a natural human reaction to respond when someone says a cheery "Good Morning"
and to do so in the same way
in other words - exactly the opposite of how they wanted to treat her

Over a period of time social pressure and expectations would force them to respond to the politeness and general niceness and eventually they would come round

and she would win

excellent long term view of the world!!

Reminds me of a poster I saw, which said “if you see someone without a smile, give them one of yours”

Don’t live everyday like it’s your last. Your last day probably won’t be that enjoyable.

It's like the "live your dreams" advice.

Why would anyone want to arrive late, without their trousers, for an exam they'd not revised for ?

I genuinely did have a rather unsettling dream where I was to give a powerpoint presentation to important customers where I had not only not prepared but was trying to guess the subject matter so I could busk it whilst not letting on to my boss I had no idea what it was supposed to be about ! I'd been retired for a couple of years by that point, but the nightmares continued!

I never took to the film Inception, but it would've been worse based around your dream.😉
