Max tyre width on hybrid?

I'll have to type this quietly as my Triban 3 is in earshot and I don't want her thinking I'm planning being unfaithful..........

But, as my other half is insisting on cycling off road I want to stick some MTB tyres on my Dawes Discovery 401. It currently has 700 x 30c tyres on it.

I had been looking for an online guide as to how wide I can go, but to no avail. Can anyone advise and possibly even suggest a good tyre for it?

You'll have to stick with 700mm tyres you can't go to 26 inch mtb tyres; how wide you can go will be limited by your frame clearance and inner rim width.

How off road, if it's forestry tracks etc go with marathon plus as quite good off road without going full mbt on your tyres, 35c should fit, but would check before ordering but the ladies 401 came with 35c tyres.

I had a Discovery 301 for a while and it had 700x38C on it.
