Max heart rates

Resting heart rate is a funny one, mine is in the 50s and I'm very active, though a friend of mine has a lower RHR, even though he doesn't run/cycle/swim at all, in fact he's doesn't sweat at all apart from a game of football once a week. It's when it comes to how your heart rate increases during exercise, and recovers, thats when the fitness comes into play.

Everyone's MHR is different. I used to be able to top 220 when I was 17, though 180 is rather more usual now. There's a fair amount of physiological variation between individuals with HR. What's more important is that you don't feel any adverse effects: I wouldn't worry about it.

I would agree it's good to use for personal training reasons and is pointless to use for comparison purposes.
