Ok so I bought my new Allez Elite and its Black, Red and White and at the same time I bought some black Keo Look pedals and some black Spesh road shoes (with bit of red and white on them). Shortly after buying the bike I purchased some Specialized black/red/grey gloves and thats pretty much all I had bought for 6 months.

Recently I have had 7 weeks off the bike but have bought a few bits, someone from work sent me a link to some discount pages on the cycle store and in particular some spesh Jerseys (17.95!!) and I bought a Red and black one at the same time I purchased a new road helmet (£30 reduced from £60 ish) and you guessed it its red, black and white and yes it is made by specialized.

Now subconsciously I must admit to have sniggered a bit at obviously novice roadies with 100% matching gear head to toe (like with most sports you do get the 'all the gear, no idea' clan and I have never been a member) but now I am one of them!!! :biggrin::ohmy: :wacko::blush::biggrin:

Before this I rode in a t shirt and some quiksilver boardshorts (with black cycling shorts underneath) with a grey Bianchi branded helmet, but I went out yesterday for the first time in full matching outfits glasses and everything and I must admit it felt awesome and I am sure the psycological aspect boosted my average speed too!

Please tell me I am not the only one! :biggrin::blush:

You're not the only one but are one of the 'sadder' specimens I've come across. I can't wait for when you change your bike and it's a whole new colourscheme:biggrin:

If it floats your boat then why not? To be honest I'm thinking along similar lines for the weekend bike. For commuting I'll stick to what's cheap, I already have one really disgusting top. I suppose my bib shorts are probably a bit naff as well, old team kit. But as I don't know the teams etc it doesn't bother me.

You'll need to train hard though Wigsie, you absolutely cannot be scalped by a bimbler when you're wearing all that matching gear:biggrin:

I thinks that why I was noticably faster yesterday, I am too afraid of being done by some weasel in jeans, a string vest and some work boots!

And I am sure the bike will last longer than a few bits of clothes (well its more pricey to upgrade the bike).

Have you seen the young kids out in their Vauxhall Novas, Fiat Puntos and Peugeot 105s all dressed up like class C rally cars?

Despite all the paint, skirts, stickers and window dimmers, they still have the 1300 cc, 60 hp engine under the bonnet and couldn't pull the skin off a rice pudding.

Now take a look at the cyclist who dresses up in all the flash clothes, rides the flash bike but still has the legs of an utter wimp.

I hope you're NOT one of these.:bravo:

There is a quick and simple method of determining 'posability'.

Take a tape measure and measure your thighs.

Thighs = Waist, ride anything you like.
Thighs = > 0.9 x Waist, Go out in Team replicas.
Thighs = > 0.8 x Waist, OK
Thighs = > 0.7 x Waist, need some work.
Thighs = > 0.6 x Waist, Stay at home.

I am Thighs = > 0.81 x Waist. I'm OK to wear my Peugeot Team clothing on my PX10LE.

You are a mathematical oracle Jim, an equation for every occassion!

My thighs are big and solid from national level swimming and club Rugby... never been able to fit into jeans with my waist size as they are always too tight in the thigh!

Will have to track down a tape measure but I would say at the very minimum they would be 0.8.

Will have to print off the equation to show people that mock me!

Maybe he was, but I have abnormally large thigh and calf muscles so I am taking it as gospel. :bravo::becool:

I have reasonable thighs and quite a skinny waist, but still only about 0.67 on the above ratio! Good job, I have no team kit!
The Highlands are not renowned for being flat and I have no problem getting up the hills on a compact with an 12-27 back cassette, but will still train harder!

Pretending to be Lance is a nono....looking good however is a different story

But if pretending to be Lance is what keeps him riding, then fair play!

Maybe visit the doctor, I would be worried! :biggrin:

Back OT, I think being completely colour co-ordinated is a bit gay :biggrin: , however it sounds as though wigsie has the confidence to surpass this stereotype with ease! :sad:
