aaahh so you mean like the towpath i mentioned, wanstead flats is a great open space thats hard surface but grassy ideal for kids to learn to ride a bike on.my eldest learnt there, my youngest started there and would be great at moment for confidence building off road/pavement. hackney marches also were an off road route. so yes plenty of ROUTES we cannot use anymore
one can only agree.

In our part of London there's the creeping privatisation of Battersea Park, 25% of which has now been lost to events companies, car parking, a sports centre you pay for and the like. There's not a lot of gardens in Battersea and should we ever have a summer's day (fond hope) you'll see young people lined up on the turf like seals, taking in the rays.

Whether it's shopping centres with security guards or Docklands or the Olympics the bits of London that you can go to as and when you want are being whittled away.

Hackney Marshes is the place where the Sunday league used to be played - you know that famous park life advert from the 90s with like 30 footie pitches.

Well, despite the idea of the Olympics promoting sport, the tarmaced them over.
that's another one - although I'm given to understand that they will be reclaimed for football later

I did ask you politely to go away have you got s*** in your eyes?
genius!

you're labouring under a misconception you might want to test by getting about this forum a bit. Try General Cycling, or Informal Rides. (Don't stray in to Commuting, though.....). I do warn you that you'll find at least one thread of over 5,000 posts, another of over 2,000 posts and several of around 1000 posts in Informal Rides. I've always thought that people posted on those threads because they find them stimulating and fun, but you might not want to risk it.....

Ive been reading up on your organised rides and I take my hat off to you as you appear to be very generous with your time and work hard to include novices in your rides. I did take exception to the handling of the ride on Friday and I don't see it benefitting us as cyclists. I don't mind people quoting my posts and commenting on my opinions (after all that is what this forum is for).

I would however expect that if I specifically and politely asked someone not to reply to me and not to quote my posts then that person would be grown up enough to respect my wish. Once someone has been asked nicely then they will get told to feck off. To continue to reply after that point is needless and just winds people up. I would hope that you as a quite clearly educated person can understand my point?

What I will say is that for a forum which at first seems very helpful and friendly there are an awfull lot of people on here who like to condescend and belittle people because they have nothing better to do. It takes intelligence to be witty and funny and make people smile. Its much easier to be sarcastic and derogatory with your comments and pass peoples opinions off as tripe simply because you were privy to a public forum before others were.

I'm not going to be bullied of this site by some faceless keyboard warriors who quote idealistic philosiphies to back up thier empty posts and put down other users. I sugggest we avoid any further communication as we quite clearly do not see eye to eye.

I've been called some unpleasant things in my time, but educated!

my suggestion is this. Don't treat this forum as an alternative to real life. Treat it as an adjunct, a springboard to real life. I've made a hundred friends here - not virtual friends, but flesh and blood friends.

Check out ColinJ.......

All Cyclist are the same
All Critical Mass riders are the same
All Germans are the same
All french are the same
All foreigners as the same.
All white van drivers are the same
All police officers are the same.

It's good to stereotype/profile people.

PS anyone heard of Trayvon Martin?

. . . and should we ever have a summer's day (fond hope) you'll see young people lined up on the turf like seals, taking in the rays.

Whether it's shopping centres with security guards or Docklands or the Olympics the bits of London that you can go to as and when you want are being whittled away.

That is always the way with cities.

At some time in the distant past, most parts of London would have been suitable for staging football matches; there would have been a lot more 'turf' for the young people to line up on like seals.

If you want more green areas in London, you should have started complaining somewhat earlier; I believe that there was a CM protest back in the late 1700s.

. . . . There's not a lot of gardens in Battersea

. . . . the bits of London that you can go to as and when you want are being whittled away.

There tend not to be 'a lot of gardens' in cities - they like to build on them.

You've made the choice to live there; what do you expect in such a congested city ? if you want green areas, move to the countryside.

They've always been 'whittling away' in London; it is an ever-expanding city - some call it progress.

What the hell are you on about? London is about as green as it gets - the parks are MAHOOSIVE, and every second square seems to be a little oasis of greeness

Smeggers old bean, you've got far bigger (and better) parks, right on your doorstep.

If the Londoners go to Richmond Park and see a few deer, they think that they are experiencing 'raw' countryside. ^_^

London = concrete jungle.

. . . . . . . where you Londons can sit and be unfriendly to each other, whilst drinking your over priced skinny crappy-chinos and Pret A Mung Bean Burger.

.

True!

Mind you, same could be said of Prestbury, Alderley Edge & Wilmslow
