I find Bike Route Toaster far superior to Memory Map in both detail and ease of planning.

Sounds like I'm already using the best there is then?

By all means go to Google maps, with various online mapping and route planning systems run by amateurs, BUT beware the maps are riddled with inaccuracies ... many roads don't appear, others do but don't exist.

I guess you get what you are willing to pay for.

OSM has some features that don't appear on (many) other maps. OS doesn't include many of the errors as it doesn't do that sort of mapping. Not really a like for like comparison, but I agree OS suits cycling a lot more than some other maps.
